Sumana Banerjee is a consultant research and impact fellow at Northumbria University, UK, focusing on voluntary labour for climate adaptation and disasters in the Indian Sundarbans. A project manager by profession, Sumana has been involved in interdisciplinary climate change research projects with a focus on sustainability, risk, migration, adaptation, and gender. With 10 years of experience of working in the Indian Sundarban delta, she has worked on IDRC-DfID funded DECCMA Project, UKRI-GCRF Living Deltas Hub, as a project manager and researcher. She has also worked as a consultant with the United Nations University on the CARICO project. Working with the people in the deltaic communities of Indian Sundarbans and Mahanadi Delta, has built her capacity as a researcher. Besides these, research communication is a key area of interest for her and she strives to make academic research findings more accessible for all. Sumana will be presenting on “Volunteering in the climate-affected Indian Sundarbans” in a Human Library Session during the IVCO Conference.
