Global Volunteering Through Mutual Exchange and Parnerships : An Essential Force for Sustainable Development

The Global Volunteering Forum (IVCO) 2026 is a learning journey that moves from understanding volunteer impact, to the external factors that enable it, to taking action to accelerate volunteering’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals and beyond.

This year’s theme opens the door to:

Delegates will explore the many ways in which volunteering contributes to sustainable development, in the spirit of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY2026). It will showcase how essential volunteering is in practice, while also addressing challenges, responses, and strategies to speed up progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Central ideas are partnerships and cross-mobility, which links national and international solidarity and ties closely to SDG 17. This includes reciprocal exchange, South-South cooperation, and new ways of working together beyond traditional models, involving different types of stakeholders.

Both local and national volunteering will be recognised as the foundation of sustainable development, showing how community-based action strengthens broader cooperation.

The conference will explore these different dimensions, with input from participants around the world. All stakeholders, regardless of their focus or expertise, will be invited to contribute, with special space given to volunteers, whether currently serving, returned, or based in France.
