Phearong is a women’s rights activist with over nine years of experience. She is currently the Executive Director of Banteay Srei Organization, where she has served since October 2021. Before this role, she was Program Manager for Citizen and Youth Empowerment at Transparency International Cambodia (2018–2021), leading initiatives to strengthen youth participation in decision-making. From 2016–2018, she worked at the British Embassy in Cambodia, managing youth employment programs and building partnerships with Chevening Alumni. Earlier, she gained experience in communications at the European Union Delegation (2014–2016).
Beyond her professional roles, Phearong is a Board Member of Wedu Cambodia and co-founder of Joint of Youth Cambodia, where she has led youth initiatives on gender equality and social development. In 2023, she represented women leaders in Southeast Asia as a guest speaker on women’s leadership at Level Up the Playing Field during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Sydney. That same year, she was recognized as one of the “50 Leaders in Asia Pacific” by Women of the Future and appointed by UN Women Cambodia as a Young Champion to advance youth engagement in ending gender-based violence.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a master’s degree in Human Rights Law.
Phearong will be participating in our opening plenary panel discussion on day one of the IVCO conference, on strengthening civil society through volunteering.
