Dr Wan Ahmad Hazman Wan Daud is a prominent activist in the realms of volunteerism, leadership, and student development, particularly in Malaysia. He advocates for a holistic approach to education, emphasising that academic excellence alone is not sufficient for students’ preparation for life post-university. Throughout his studies, Hazman engaged in a wide array of activities both on and off campus while maintaining commendable academic performance. He earned his doctorate in land administration and development from the University of Technology Malaysia with a focus on the aboriginal land ownership framework in Peninsular Malaysia.
Currently, Hazman serves as the Executive Director of Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) under the Ministry of National Unity, where he is instrumental in realising the organisation’s mission to develop Malaysia as a hub for student volunteering and to nurture student volunteer leaders as icons on the global stage. Under his leadership, YSS has successfully completed over 60 volunteering missions across Sabah, Sarawak, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, and France, training thousands of volunteers at both national and international levels. Additionally, YSS plays a crucial role in managing and mobilising volunteers during various disasters in Malaysia, earning recognition as a strategic partner of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA). Dr Wan will be presenting on “Solidarity during crisis – YSS Roles in Malaysia in navigating the Covid-19 pandemic” in a Human Library Session during the IVCO 2024 Conference.
