Michael Bartle

Community Education Lecturer - University of Dundee

Michael Bartle has dedicated over 40 years to volunteerism and volunteer management, focusing on empowering emerging professionals in Higher, Further, and Community Education. As a Volunteer Coordinator, he manages and supports training initiatives centred on peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland, highlighting his commitment to fostering harmony in multicultural settings. Michael is also a skilled volunteer trainer in conflict management and actively contributes as a Volunteer Coastguard. Currently, he serves as the MSC Community Education Convener, collaborating with volunteer and community managers to enhance educational programmes and community engagement. His previous roles include Senior Lecturer, Course Leader, Guidance Manager, and Volunteer Trainer, showcasing a diverse and impactful career in education and training. In addition to his extensive practical experience, Michael has published work on volunteering in sport, peace, and reconciliation, contributing valuable insights to the field. His dedication to community service and education has made a significant impact, inspiring countless individuals and promoting positive change. Michael Bartle’s lifelong commitment to volunteerism and community development underscores his role as a leader and advocate in the sector. Michael will be presenting on “Learning as a volunteer in His Majesty’s Coastguard (HMCG): balancing emergency volunteering in professional spaces” in a Human Library Session during the IVCO 2024 Conference.
