Helge Espe

Independent Analyst, South-South and Triangular Cooperation

Helge is an experienced sociologist with a rich background in international development. He dedicated a decade of his career to the Norwegian Save the Children in Ethiopia, where he focused on improving the lives of vulnerable children and communities. Following this impactful work, Helge spent 20 years with the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (Norec), furthering his expertise in global collaboration and development initiatives. Now self-employed, Helge offers his consultancy services on matters related to international development cooperation, with a particular emphasis on south-south and triangular cooperation as well as the volunteering sector. His extensive experience and deep understanding of the complexities of development work allow him to provide valuable insights and strategies to various organisations seeking to enhance their impact. In addition to his consultancy, Helge is actively involved in the Norwegian Evaluation Association, where he serves on the Board. His commitment to improving practices in evaluation and development cooperation reflects his dedication to fostering effective and meaningful partnerships in the field. Through his multifaceted career, Helge continues to champion the importance of collaboration and innovative approaches to tackle pressing global challenges. Helge will be presenting on “Trends in the international development sector” in a Strategy Conversation during the IVCO 2024 Conference.
