Ali Al-Nasani

Ali Al-Nasani is the Executive Director of EIRENE International Peace and Volunteers Service. He is a human rights expert with over two decades of experience in international cooperation. Most recently, he served as the Director of the Cambodia office for the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (2020–2023), managing university-level human rights education. Prior to this, he led the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s Cambodia office (2013–2020), where he oversaw strategic project development on women’s rights, minority issues, and environmental protection. From 2009 to 2013, Al-Nasani worked in Brussels as Head of Office for MEP Barbara Lochbihler, Chair of the European Parliament’s Human Rights Subcommittee. He has also contributed as a freelance human rights journalist in Nepal and held advocacy roles with Amnesty International Germany. It is Ali Al-Nasani’s strong belief that support to and care for mental health is a crucial part in international volunteers‘ work. Al-Nasani holds degrees in African Studies, and Political Science from the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. He has completed numerous professional trainings in human rights, AI, sustainable tourism, and mental health. He is fluent in German (native), English and French and currently resides in Germany. Ali will be speaking on Day 2 of the IVCO 2025 conference, in the breakout session on “Selecting, preparing and supporting volunteers to work in demanding environments “
