Volunteer-involving organisations as advocates for civic space

September 16, 2025

Civic space is essential to inclusive societies but is under threat worldwide. Volunteer-involving organisations (VIOs) and their volunteers play a vital role in defending and expanding this space by advocating for rights, inclusion, and community-driven change.

Through concrete case studies, this session will explore how VIOs can engage protect civic space through advocacy, including by joining international coalitions and campaigns. Participants will share lessons from successful advocacy efforts, examine the benefits and challenges of global collaboration, and discuss how to build and sustain alliances. The session will also highlight the role volunteers can play in these networks to amplify collective impact.

Different modalities of breakout sessions have been designed to amplify diverse voices and promote opportunities for delegates to share their experiences in engaging ways during IVCO 2025.
