Isidora D. Mytilinaiou began her academic journey in social policy and economics, later pursuing a postgraduate programme in the voluntary organisations sector at the London School of Economics, followed by an M.Phil. in organisational change within the third sector from Roehampton University. She is currently a PhD candidate at Bayes Business School, UK, where she is preparing to submit her research titled “Managing Compassion: The Role of Psychological Contract Theory and Emotional Labour in Public Children’s Hospital Volunteering”. Her research journey commenced with an ethnographic dissertation on voluntary associations in Zakynthos, Greece, and a dissertation focused on the Greek YWCA. Collaborating with the School of Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Isidora made significant strides in the recruitment and retention of volunteer blood donors, contributing to a comprehensive toolkit addressing donor needs. In her role as Head of Volunteers for the online crowdfunding platform YouBeHero, she adeptly managed digital volunteers through online training and explored sustainability strategies. Additionally, as Director of Education at the Fetal Medicine Foundation, Isidora aimed to reduce maternal and perinatal fatalities in developing countries by educating local healthcare professionals and establishing fetal medicine centres. Her multifaceted career underscores her commitment to advancing humanitarian efforts through volunteer engagement and education. Isidora will be presenting on “Cultivating Unity in Crisis: The Role of Psychological Contracts and Emotional Labour in Volunteerism” in a Pecha-Kucha Session during the IVCO 2024 Conference.
