Jay Ancheta

Director of Next Generation Volunteering, Habitat for Humanity Intl

Jay Ancheta is a development professional and volunteer leader with 20 years of experience in volunteer program management in the Philippines and internationally. He has worked across government, non-profits, and grassroots organizations. Since 2014, Jay has been with Habitat for Humanity International, leading volunteering strategy for Asia-Pacific, serving as Habitat Japan’s country director (2017–2019), and now as global director for Next Generation Volunteering, advising on transformative volunteer solutions. He chairs the Philippine Association for Volunteer Effort and co-founded the Philippine Coalition on Volunteerism. Before Habitat, Jay worked with VSO (2006–2014), advancing national volunteering in the Philippines and advising regional programs in Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and China. He holds a BA in social sciences (behavioral studies), a master’s in development communications from the University of the Philippines, and completed a JICA fellowship on post-war reconstruction at Hiroshima University. Jay will be moderating the session on Understanding the global civil society landscape and placing volunteering within it, taking place on Monday the 15th of September as well as leading the wrap up at the end of day 1.
