Jean-Alexandre Fortin

Head of Volunteer Programmes - Solidarité, Union, Coopération (SUCO)

Jean-Alexandre Fortin is an accomplished professional in international cooperation, holding a Master’s degree in International Humanitarian Action from the Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium and a Bachelor’s degree in International Management from HEC Montréal. Since September 2020, he has served as the Head of Volunteer Programmes with SUCO in Montreal. Prior to this role, he spent nearly six years as the Coordinator of Oxfam-Québec’s Access and Innovation Programme in Bolivia. With over twenty years of extensive experience in international cooperation, Jean-Alexandre possesses a profound understanding of the socio-political landscape in Latin America and Africa, particularly regarding issues related to volunteer cooperation. His academic and professional expertise focuses on the management of development programmes targeted at women and young people, emphasising programme planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation. Since 2003, Jean-Alexandre has collaborated with various non-governmental organisations dedicated to international development across Africa, Haiti, and Latin America. His work with organisations such as the Centre de Coopération Internationale en Santé et Développement, Canada World Youth, and Oxfam-Québec has solidified his reputation as a leader in the field, committed to advancing humanitarian and developmental initiatives. Jean and Jérôme Leblanc will be presenting on “Evaluating Transformative Change: Leveraging Outcome Harvesting in Volunteer Programmes to inform strategic decision-making and improve capacity-building of local partners” in a How-to Workshop Session during the IVCO 2024 Conference.
