Sophia Nthuku

Programme Operations Assistant - Habitat for Humanity, Africa Area Office

Sophia Nthuku is the Programme Operations Assistant at Habitat for Humanity International’s Africa Area Office, where she plays a pivotal role in managing program activities. In addition to her operational responsibilities, she serves as the liaison for volunteering activities across the Africa region and co-leads the youth working group, which focuses on enhancing youth engagement within the housing sector. Sophia’s deep commitment to the future of the African continent is evident through her active involvement in youth-led initiatives aimed at addressing complex challenges such as unemployment and poor governance. In her pursuit of empowering young leaders, she volunteers with the Unlock Young Leaders Summit, an organisation dedicated to mentoring and developing value-driven leaders for tomorrow. Sophia graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, providing her with a strong foundation in sustainable development and design principles. Her academic and professional experiences, combined with her passion for social impact, enable her to contribute meaningfully to Habitat for Humanity’s mission and the broader goal of improving housing conditions for Africa’s youth, further solidifying her role as a vital advocate for community empowerment and youth engagement. Sophia and Margaret Mengo will be presenting about “Reimagining International Volunteering: Insights from Habitat for Humanity’s Strategic Global Village Shifts” in a How-to Workshop Session during the IVCO Conference.
