Professor Zhang is a professor at the School of Government, Beijing Normal University (BNU), and the founding director of Token for Good Hub and BNU’s Innovation Research Center for Risk Governance. He holds adjunct positions at Tsinghua University and other institutions, and serves as a board member of the China Volunteer Service Federation, chairman of the China Social Enterprise and Impact Investment Forum (CSEIF), and executive director of the Sustainability Management Committee at the China Management Science Society. He earned his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University (2004) and was a Harvard-Yenching Scholar (2011–2012).
His research focuses on risk governance, social innovation, and sustainable development. He has led major national research projects and co-edits the Philanthropy Blue Book. He was named an Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researcher in Public Administration.
Professor Zhang has served as advisor to UNDP, the UN Global Report on Volunteerism Expert Group, and the WHO Learning Strategy Development Group, and as Technical Lead for UN South-South Cooperation programs. He teaches courses in public administration, emergency management, humanitarian and sustainable development, social innovation, and ESG in both Chinese and English.
