IVCO 2024

Newcastle upon Tyne

Welcome to Newcastle upon Tyne, a lively city nestled in the North East of England, renowned for its extensive heritage, vibrant culture, awe-inspiring architecture and the welcoming Geordie charm and hospitality. Geordie is a nickname for those from this region of the country and also the dialect spoken locally. Newcastle has something to delight every visitor, whether you are foodie, love to immerse yourself in history, want to simply enjoy the lively atmosphere or have a bit of time to explore the Northumberland countryside and coastline.

Following the recent protests across the UK, we want to assure visitors to IVCO Newcastle that no further demonstrations are expected at this time. In a press release issued on August 8th, the Vice-Chancellor of Northumbria University, which is hosting IVCO 2024, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to maintaining safe, inclusive, and welcoming campuses for all. The University continues to collaborate with Northumbria Police and local communities to ensure that everyone in the city feels secure. After widespread anti-racism demonstrations on August 10th in Newcastle upon Tyne and other parts of the UK, the situation remains calm.

Newcastle offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget and preference. We have secured delegate discounts for hotels available for booking directly via the IVCO 2024 accommodation platform (click here to access it). All options on the platform are located within walking distance of the conference venue. Discounted rates for IVCO delegates are available from 8th September 2024, with some hotels offering special rates until 16th September 2024. Please check availability for each hotel option directly on the accommodation platform. In case of any questions about the conference hotels, please contact our local partners at Newcastle Gateshead Convention Bureau by e-mail (conventionbureau@ngi.org.uk) or phone (+44 191 440 5757).

There is also a diverse range of other hotels in town allowing you to stay in different areas of the city with good public transportation connections to the conference venue (explore the travel pages on how to get around).

For information, in the UK the emergency number for fire, police and medical emergencies is 999

While September in Newcastle often sees a fair amount of sunshine, it’s advisable to be prepared for some rainy days. During the early part of the month, you can expect pleasant daytime temperatures ranging from around 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F), with cooler evenings dipping to around 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F). The city receives moderate rainfall during this time, with occasional showers interspersed with periods of clearer weather. It’s a good idea to pack a light waterproof jacket or umbrella to stay dry when exploring the city. Overall, September presents a comfortable climate for outdoor activities and sightseeing in Newcastle upon Tyne.
